Helen Mirren, Dressed as the Queen of England, Stormed Outside During a Play to Tell Off Noisy Street Musicians

“I’m afraid there were a few ‘thespian’ words used. They got a very stern royal ticking off but I have to say they were very sweet and they stopped immediately… The drumming just slowly got louder and louder and then settled right outside the stage door. There was just a thin wall between drumming and the theatre so it was unbelievably loud on stage. Paul Ritter and I could hardly hear each other speak and the audience couldn’t hear us speak at all… I thought, we can’t carry on like this, they have to stop. I was so upset from struggling through the scene with Paul that I literally walked straight off stage, straight up the stairs and straight out the stage door and banged my way through the crowd who were watching and said ‘stop, you’ve got to stop right now’ only I might have used stronger language than that. They were very sweet and stopped the minute they knew I wasn’t just a batty old woman haranguing them on the streets of Soho on a Saturday night.”Dame Helen Mirren. Apparently if you interrupt a play she’s in by drumming right outside the theater she will not hesitate to tell you to STFU. Best part? She was playing the Queen of England at the time.

See Historical Ladies In Armor In The White Queen Trailer

Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort, and Anne Neville are the focus of the BBC’s The White Queen. The series is based on Philippa Gregory’s best selling historical novel series The Cousins’ War, and follows the women’s perspective during the Wars of the Roses. Coincidentally enough, The White Queen was written by a woman named Emma Frost. The 10-episodes series will air this summer on BBC One and in August on Starz in the U.S.

Zoe Saldana Is Confirmed For Guardians of the Galaxy, Talks Her Latest Alien Role

We’d heard the rumors that Zoe Saldana would play female lead Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy before, but—speaking for myself personally, here—I didn’t want to assume they’d come true lest I jinx that wonderful bit of casting.

Looks like my skepticism paid off, as the casting was not jinxed and Saldana has in fact been confirmed as Gamora. You’re welcome.

Zoe Saldana is in Talks to Play Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy

Zoe Saldana, of the Star Trek and Avatar soon-to-be-franchises, is looking to make a geeky hat trick by slotting a third major scifi series into her… bandolier? I guess? This mixed metaphor got away from me. What I’m trying to say is that according to the Hollywood Reporter, the actress is in talks to play the female lead in Guardians of the Galaxy, which, incidentally, would make her the first woman of color to play a major character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Watch Cersei Lannister’s Daughter Learn How To Fight Demons In The Mortal Instruments

Even though I haven’t read the novels it’s based on, I decided I was going to see The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. But with this new trailer I realized Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey was starring as an ex-demon hunter so now I’ll be there on opening day.

There’s No BioShock Infinite Gameplay In This Trailer And We Don’t Care

Trailers don’t always need to be obvious to be effective. For instance, everyone I’ve talked to about this new BioShock Infinite trailer has said how impressed they were with it and how excited they now are for the game. Granted, most were excited before the trailer (and have been waiting a looooooong time for it to come out) but a little creativity goes a long way.

Relive The Year in Movies in 8 Minutes With This Supercut [VIDEO]

Have I mentioned before that I love montages? Because I love montages. Which means I loooove the last week or so of the year. This supercut by Dutch film student Kees van Dijkhuizen Jr. reminds me of all the movies I loved (Brave, The Cabin in the Woods), didn’t love (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hunger Games), intended to see but never got around to it (Compliance, Safety Not Guaranteed), and kindasorta forgot about (Premium Rush, The Impossible) from this year.

What was your favorite movie that came out in 2012?
