Celebrate Your Favorite Ladyfriends With Geeky Galentine’s Day Cards

What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. You can watch the linked video to have Parks and Recreation’s Leslie Knope explain it to you (why wouldn’t you?!), or here’s the skinny: It takes place every February 13th, and it’s a day for ladies to celebrate their ladyfriends, preferably over breakfast food. It should be a national holiday. For now, though, we have these splendid Galentines by Tumblr user fourteenacross, more of which are under the jump. Now someone bring me a waffle.

Woodburnt Images Of Game Of Thrones, Harry Potter & More Pop-Culture Characters

Etsy user Tory Russ has created some really fantastic images of characters from The Hobbit, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and more by woodburning. “Half-crafter, half-daydreamer, and half-nerd, and not good enough at math to be a scientist, so I burn things instead,” she writes, “I love everything about woodburning – sure it might take a while and you may singe yourself a few times, but ‘who would want to lose hours of their life and a couple skin cells making a woodburned portrait of Boba Fett*?’ said no one ever.” She’s yet to get to that Boba Fett portrait but she’s hoping to one day! Take a look at a few of the prints and boxes she has to offer featuring some of our favorite folks from geek culture.

Welcome to the third installment of Feminist Frequency’s investigation of gendered tropes in video games, where we’re still, probably not surprisingly, covering all the bases of the Damsel in Distress: including the not-quite-equivalency of role reversals and the unhelpfulness “ironic” sexism. I know from personal experience that the latter is one of those concepts that still escapes a lot of folks. Enjoy!
