There’s been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Christopher Eccleston would return to Doctor Who for their 50th anniversary celebrations. Well, we finally have solid information from the BBC itself. If you’d like to know whether or not you’ll see Eccleston, hit the jump.

According to Life Doctor Who and Combom, Matt Smith has confirmed that he’ll still be the Doctor at the end of Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary special, and will still be the Doctor in the 2013 Christmas special and Series 8. So you can breath a sigh of relief, if you were worried.

I think all fans have a responsibility to laugh along with the the little voice in the back of our heads that says, occasionally, “You are a fan of a stupid thing.” Of course I’m a fan of things that have some stupid qualities! But I wouldn’t give up on Batman just because, say, Killer Moth and Crazy Quilt exist. Or because he got lost in time once and was impregnated with Omega particles that would destroy all time and space once he reached the present, and that was right after he escaped a brainwashing by reverting to a back up personality he’d installed in his own brain that called itself the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh.
Or something like that. It was stupid. And it is in that spirit that I call this recently revealed redesign for the classic Doctor Who monsters the Ice Warriors wonderfully stupid. Whovians, I’m looking forward to incorporating even this stupid thing into my fandom for Doctor Who. Full picture below:

Doctor Who fans are…how shall I say…passionate? With every new announcement, or rumor for that matter, we take to the internet to give our opinion on it and a lot of those times the opinions are quite unhappy. Take the decision to split Season 7 in two, or the hint of a 60-minute 50th anniversary special. Frankly, we all just want to know what’s going on and it seems one fan finally took the next step to find out – they complained to the BBC itself.

The BBC are just beginning to roll out their plans for the Doctor Who anniversary, which, it should come as no surprise, involves much more than just the airing of the anniversary special. There’s going to be special campaigns, and press events, and television spots and who knows, maybe a set of commemorative plates. It’s also going to involve a chance for more folks to get in on the entire fifty year history of Doctor Who, not just the parts of the show with computer generated effects. Even if you live, like this blog, across the pond.

We’ve seen the latest trailer, we’ve seen two mini-sodes, but still, the Doctor Who Christmas special feels so far away! But right this second, I’m ok with that. As if The Snowmen themselves weren’t scary enough, this new TV spot might make you watch the episode hidden under your covers. The part that really scares me? At the 15 second mark. I think I’ll stay inside all winter. Yup. Sounds like a plan.
