Anne Hathaway Joins the Cast of Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse; Can She Play the Lead, Please?

Anne Hathaway just keeps getting nerdier. First she plays Catwoman. Then Fantine in Les Misérables. (Musicals are no less nerdy for not involving superheroes or sci-fi.) And now she’s joined the cast of Steven Spielberg‘s Robopocalypse, based on a book about robots that gain sentience and start a war against humanity (naturally).

Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Going To Play Conan The Barbarian Again

Look, I’m just gonna say it. Someone needs to shoot Arnold Schwarzenegger with some elephant tranquilizers and give him an intervention. The 65-year-old actor is going to reprise his role as Conan the Barbarian in a new film. This is just…I have no words. No wait, I do. BY CROM!

Almost As Good As Gills: Scientists Create a Microparticle That Supplies Oxygen Without Breathing

Progress is making us lazier and lazier, amirite? Remote controls, smartphone machines, cheese in cans. And now, science is making it possible for our blood supply to receive enough oxygen to our bodies without us even having to breathe. This is terrible news, you guys. If we can’t use “getting winded” as an excuse, how are we supposed to avoid exercising?

I’m kidding. This is actually a pretty important medical breakthrough.

When You Wish Upon a Shooting Corpse Star, and Other Facts About Human Death Practices [Video]

Mortician Caitlin Doughty is providing us a huge service: answering our questions about what happens to our dead bodies when we are no longer around to find out for ourselves. She’s been running a web series on You Tube, Ask a Mortician, for a while now and we’d like to present her fifth episode to you. In this video, she covers pressing questions like “What happens to corpses in space?” and “Will burning the body a dearly departed obese person cause a grease fire?” But if you are just in the mood to find out more about her line of work, we urge you to visit her web site, Order of the Good Death.

The World’s Oldest Yoga Teacher Is This 91-Year-Old Great-Grandmother (Says Guinness)

The Official Definitive Authority on the Extreme, Guinness World Records, has found the world’s oldest yoga teacher — or at least, as both Jezebel and the Associated Press point out, the world’s oldest yoga teacher who was available to fill out the proper documentation: 91-year-old Bernice Bates! This ultra-healthy great-grandmother teaches yoga at her retirement home in Florida and can do that pose above (boat pose), which is a lot harder than it looks. Seriously, let’s celebrate Bernice Bates today. She can do that, plus she’s helping her peers live a more comfortable, flexible life. Namaste!

Ladies Lounging (Uncomfortably) With Laptops

Ahhh, stock photography. Slightly more attractive people doing regular people things! But do you ever see a stock photo that makes you wonder, “Do people really do this?” Well, this collection of women with laptops might make you think that, in addition to “Isn’t that uncomfortable?” While it’s true that computers are used for leisure as well as work (as these lovely ladies demonstrate), these “leisurely” poses might actually cause serious back pain if maintained for more than six minutes. We strongly urge you not to try any of these at home, maybe consider a standing desk, or just don’t use your laptop on the freaking floor, restricting your human arms to the limited mobility of a Tyrannosaurus rex.

This Is How the Mighty Fall: Not With a Roar But With One Small Last Breath

I’ll admit to not having much experience with the particular fandom (I won’t mention it specifically here, because I think the slow reveal is actually one of the movie’s strengths) this fan movie is based in, other than watching it a few times on Toonami while I was waiting for Batman: The Animated Series to come on. But anyone who’s willing to take it’s concept and crank the dial up to Battlestar Galactica levels of space opera realism gets my endorsement.

Woman Completes Chicago Marathon, Then Gives Birth to a Baby

Here’s another story about a woman who won’t let impending motherhood get in the way of getting the job done: Amber Miller, who was nearly 39 weeks pregnant, ran half the Chicago Marathon this weekend and then walked the second half. And then right after crossing the finish line, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. After grabbing a nosh. Yup. Did you get winded after climbing some stairs this morning? Guess what? Amber Miller is about to make you feel like a real slacker.

The Gender Gap in Spatial Reasoning is Cultural, not Genetic

For a long time, it’s been accepted that a gender gap existed in spatial reasoning — women frequently underperformed, so therefore, it must be a biological difference between men and women. But now, a new study finds that this might not be cut and dry, because when two tribes in India were tested on their spatial reasoning, a patrilineal and a matrilineal, the gender gap was closed in the matrilineal society. So, what’s going on here?
