Portal Rings: Hopefully the Wedding Cake Won’t Be a Lie

We’ve featured rings inspired by Portal before, but these are probably appropriate for a more special occasion. Created by Etsy seller 17thbit, they are 8 mm wide and come in sterling silver. One version reads “You Have the Portal to My Heart,” the other features the companion cube. So obviously, they don’t have to be wedding rings, but they sure could be. It’s Like The Walking Dead, Only As a Light-Hearted Romance [Video]

If you were planning on writing a screenplay that can be described as “Twilight with zombies,” we’re — ahem, you’re too late. Because Rotting Hill already exists. It’s about young, undead love, and sticking together when you’re falling apart. No, really falling apart, like body parts falling to the ground. Hate when that happens.

Also worth mentioning: this is a student film, from graduates of New Zealand’s Media Design School. And we really hope they’ll find gainful employment in the filmmaking business as soon as possible. Maybe they should give Peter Jackson a ring? After all, he started in stuff like this.

Quantum Entanglement: A New Way to Be Married

In New York City, at the AC Institute, people will be able to get “married” on a whole new level. An elemental level. A quantum level. Artist and experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats, who previously created a photosynthetic restaurant for plants, has come up with a way to truly connect two partners without the interference of the law. The concept of quantum entanglement says that two particles will always be connected, and if one particle is affected, the other one is also effected, no matter how far away.

In other words, when two or more particles are entangled, they behave as if they were one and the same, and any change to one instantaneously and identically changes those entangled with it even if they’re a universe apart. “Just try doing that in a marriage contract,” Mr. Keats says.

Good point, actually!
