By now you’ve probably heard about Mitt Romney’s “binders full of women” comment from last night’s presidential debate. If not, to recap: Romney answered a question about pay equality with an anecdote about how, as governor of Massachusetts, he responded to the lack of qualified female applicants for cabinet positions (O RLY, Mitt?) by making a “concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks,’ and they brought us whole binders full of women.”

Christopher Nolan is known for being extra-secrative about his films, especially his Batman films, but that doesn’t stop fans from speculating on the tiniest clues. In the case of Oscar winner Marion Cotillard, who’s playing Miranda Tate in The Dark Knight Rises, there was next to nothing to go on but the actress has gone on the record to shoot down one really big fan theory. The Doctor Who crew was excited to present their new companion Jenna-Louise Coleman to the world last week but the actress herself was just relieved. It meant she didn’t have to lie anymore. Read on to see just how difficult it was for her and find out what her secret codename was. Yes, she had a secret codename! 

BlogHer, a large network of women bloggers, recently completed their 2011 Consumer Electronics Study, surveying about 13 hundred people inside their community and out (mostly, but not all, women), and have come to a number of interesting conclusions. Chief among them is the claim that when women look for information about a prospective technology purchase, they want to hear from a female voice.

Despite reports that Olivia Wilde will be taking over the role of Lara Croft in a reboot of the Tomb Raider movies, the actress has confirmed on Twitter that this is actually not happening. The reboot, however, is happening, but no stars have been attached to replace Angelina Jolie in the lead role. But wait a second — Olivia Wilde might be an awesome Lara Croft, no?

Guys are mostly look for attractiveness in a significant other, right? And women just want someone with cash. Guys also want to sleep with more partners than women do, and it’s no reason, since they also think about sex waaaaaaay more. Everybody knows that.

Well, turns out that a lot of what everybody knows, and what everybody thought was supported by some statistical or scientific evidence, is actually pretty sparsely supported by facts, and the evidence gets pretty flimsy when you reframe those experiments to work better with the data and human nature.

This is what I never do with Skittles, like, every single time I eat them.

1. Sort all by color.

2. Throw groups of five, one of each color, back in the bag.

3. Consume uneven leftovers.

4. Consume remainder of the bag five at a time, one of each color at a time.

But obviously I’m missing out and graphs should become involved.

HBO has a bothersome habit of killing some of its shows before their time (see: Carnivale, Deadwood), and apparently, some are worried that a similar fate will befall its newest fan favorite, Game of Thrones. Well, everyone can stop panicking for no reason, because it’s not going anywhere. For a while. Perhaps even a long while. As in, someone mentioned Law & Order as a comparison.

You know you’ve had fantasies about it before. You’re a gorgeous lady in times before social networking — back when social networking actually involved being social. A handsome gentleman caller approaches you warmly, caressing your neck. You invite him up to a lofty bedroom with velvet draping and scented oils (or something). He begins to kiss you gently, you return the kisses … it’s getting hotter, and you just can’t stand the thought of your hands on anything but each other! You rip off his coat, he tears open your dress, revealing heaving bosoms, suffocating against the confines of a whale-bone corset! Take me, Dr. Egon Spengler! Take me now!

Except all of this would be highly inaccurate. Because romance novelist Deeanne Gist has gotten to the bottom of all the lacy underthing mysteries and debunked bodice-ripping scenes like the one I just described at the annual convention for Romance Writers of America. But a girl can dream (if that’s her thing).
