The Mary Sue Reader Survey: How Much Are You Looking Forward To This Summer’s Movies?

The 2014 summer movie season kicks off a bit early this year with the April 4th release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And while you’ve read our opinions of the next few months’ crop of films, we’ve yet to hear from most of you. It’s time for that to change.

To coincide with Winter Soldier‘s release, we’re posting a run-down of the summer’s movies ranked by how much you, our readers, are anticipating them. But to do that, we need your help. So head over to our poll and let us know how very, very much you’re looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy and how very, very much you’re not looking forward to 50 Shades of Grey (we assume). There’s another poll where you can use your words. Comments that we like the best will be hugged to our collective bosom, thrown into a blender, and compiled into a Zagat-style blurb for each movie.

So get voting! We can’t do this without you.

Happy 3rd Birthday To The Mary Sue: Why I Love Our Logos (And Hope You Do Too)

Three years ago today, an inauspicious little thing happened. Some electrons moved from one place to another and all of a sudden this website was live on the internet. At the time I was very worried nobody would like us. I’m happy to report that that has turned out to be not true a great many times. In the past year alone we’ve hosted an advance movie screening, an incredible reader party, and a New York Comic Con panel. And that’s just our IRL achievements. We’ve also written about some crazy stuff in the past year, and it’s a safe bet there’s more crazy stuff in our future. (Trust me on this, I have some very secret “inside sources.”)

Turning three years old has us feeling pretty nostalgic, so as your fearless Managing Editor, I’m going to take a look back at our logo ladies, show you all of them in one place, and talk about why I like them so much.

Meet Some Very Special Minifigures

The folks behind this Lego Professor Xavier’s school wanted to thank us for covering them, and offered to make Lego minifigures of us. We didn’t refuse, because who would refuse that and so I give you The Mary Sue’s full time writers, as minifigures. Left to right: Rebecca, Jill, and Susana. And now we all have new Facebook profile pics.

Screw the Oscars, We’re Hosting the 2014 Mary Sues

It’s an idea borne of Pacific Rim‘s egregious Best Visual Effects Oscar snub: If the Oscars were an exclusively geeky affair, with genre films as nominees and geeks standing in for crusty old Academy voters, what would win? We decided to find out, but since our red carpet and couture gown supply is running a little bit low, we’re taking it to Facebook. Every Monday and Wednesday between now and the Oscars we’ll post a poll on our Facebook page, inviting you—yes, you—to choose the winners of the 2014 Mary Sues.

First up: Best Supporting Actress. Will Catching Fire’s Jena Malone cut down the competition, or will it be The Desolation of Smaug’s Evangeline Lilly aiming for the win? Or maybe Gwyneth Paltrow, Natalie Portman, Rila Fukushima, Kat Dennings, or Julianne Moore will pull off an upset. It’s all up to you. Get voting, my nerds.

The Mary Sue’s Most Looked At Posts of 2013

On Tuesday we showed you our most commented on articles of 2013. It was a post full of the most contentious subjects in geekdom today: online and convention harassment, white washing, and, of course, the casting of Wonder Woman in a major movie adaptation.

But chatter is only one way to know that a post grabbed a lot of attention. There’s also views! So here are our 2013 posts that were seen by the most eyeballs. Your eyeballs.
