Watch the Thor: The Dark World Teaser That Broke Tumblr

Okay, so this didn’t literally break Tumblr. The site didn’t go down, but… Well, we’ll talk more about that later. I’m prepared to enjoy this teaser with one reservation. Thor is still an affable lunkhead who’ll just zip his girlfriend off to another dimension without much warning; Sif is still a badass; and the opening image of the trailer, which, while minor, I don’t want to spoil, is conceptually fascinating. I do wish this teaser didn’t make such a damsel out of Jane Foster as it appears to. For now, in the absence of more evidence, I’ll trust that her character’s role has been necessarily diminished by the contraints of making a snappy trailer, especially considering Natalie Portman‘s efforts to shake up the behind the scenes gender imbalance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which Marvel has apparently made “concessions” towards.

Also, I may have been distracted by Loki. You’ll understand what I mean when you watch it.

Worship at the Altar of Geekiness With the Help of These Sci-Fi Gargoyles

There’s a chapel in France where the gargoyles are super-geeky. No, I’m not talking about this kind of geeky gargoyle. I mean that some architectural spirit animal of mine made gargoyles inspired by geeky movies and TV.

If you like Alien and Gremlins and are somewhat macabre and inclined to matrimony, I think I’ve found the perfect place for you to get hitched.

The First Trailer for Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments

Cassandra Clare‘s The Mortal Instruments is the latest young adult fantasy series with a female protagonist to make it to the big screen. What do we think?

Me? I’ve played a lot of D&D in my day, so I’m going to think of them as Aasimar.

Thor 2 Promises More Idris Elba, More Asgard, More… Stonehenge?

Iridis Elba, veteran of many, many amazing television roles, this summer’s Prometheus and next summer’s Pacific Rim, talked to the Examiner about returning to the role of Heimdall in Thor 2, otherwise known as Thor: The Dark World. The actor delicately skipped around talking about the substance of the movie:

In the new film we’re going to get to know Heimdall the Asgardian a bit better, and we’re going to get to know Asgard a bit better,” Elba said. “I can’t say too much, but the expansion of Thor in his world is going to be huge.

We’ve already seen a few hints of the huge in T:TDW, in leaked set photos that I initially took to be the most boring photos of a rainy graveyard I’d ever seen and wondered why anyone had even bothered posting them. Then I noticed that there was a blue van in the photo, and what I’d mistaken for tombstones were actually huge obelisks.

Ridley Scott Has Decided to Make the Most Boring-Sounding Disaster Movie Ever

The Day Britain Stopped, the 2003 BBC pseudo-documentary, a fictional disaster telefilm in which “a train strike is the first in a chain of events that led to a meltdown of the country’s transport system,” doesn’t seem like the most thrilling of source materials. But then again, we are clearly not located inside the brain of Ridley Scott, who, along with fellow filmmaker Steve Zaillian, have signed on to produce a projects inspired by it.

Tom Hiddleston Could Have Been Thor Instead of Loki

WHUA? After seeing Thor, I can’t really imagine anyone else playing the title character besides Chris Hemsworth, least of all the treacherous Loki. Well it turns out that very well could have been the case. In this interview with MTV, actor Tom Hiddleston explains that there was a chance he could have had the starring role in the Marvel film because of some peculiarly worded small print in his contract. We’re glad things worked out the way they did though because Hiddleston made a delicious Loki and we can’t wait to see him reprise the role in The Avengers and Thor 2.

Also, everybody who grabbed the Book of Mormon soundtrack as quickly as possible, knowing the above fact.
