When we first heard about an Independence Day sequel we weren’t really sure how we felt except to say it had to have Jeff Goldblum attached to star. Well producer/writer of the original, Dean Devlin, is still working on the script but it turns out he tried once and was so disappointed with it he gave the studio back their money. Find out exactly how that went down plus some new details on Independence Day 2 and whether or not Will Smith will be along for the ride.

NASA, we knew things were tough but we had no idea it was this tough. This Saturday, there will be a bake sale held to raise money for space programs. There may also be a car wash in the near future. Why has NASA resorted to the tactics of middle school PTA members? To make a point.

Science-fiction has long held onto the notion that colonization of Earth’s Moon was inevitable. Turns out they were probably right but before you strap on your personalized rocket to set up your new vacation getaway, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration would like a word with you.

Lenka Zalinska was really good at tennis in her native Slovakia. She attended a school devoted to athletics in Kosice, the country’s second-largest city. Now, she goes to an American high school in Brainerd, Minnesota as an exchange student where she still plays tennis — on the boys’ team. You might be wondering why she isn’t on the girls’ team, and the answer is simple: she missed tryouts. Fortunately, the school’s rules allow girls to try out for the boys’ team, where Zalinska continues to amaze.

Writer Trick Vickers is old-school. When she writes, she does it long hand with regular pen and paper. But Vickers ran into a serious problem recently that would probably cause most writers to have a breakdown. She lost 26 pages of a new book she was working on. No, she didn’t leave them somewhere – her pen stopped working. Not a problem for most people but it was a huge one for Vickers. She’s blind and had no idea her pen had run out of ink. So, she got the police involved.

All I can say right now is…wow. Fourteen-year-old Willow Tufano is showing what amazing things can be accomplished when you put your mind to it. This young lady is now the proud owner of a home thanks to some hard work and a little help from mom.

They came, they saw, they…went home in tears. I’m talking of course of all those who tried to get San Diego Comic-Con (Comic-Con International) tickets yesterday. New policies were implemented this year to make the process go smoother and well, it’s no surprise it didn’t. Tickets for the pop-culture convention sold out in under an hour (a new record) and lots of people were left with nothing thanks to technical difficulties.

We’re so excited British actor Benedict Cumberbatch is getting so much attention these days. He deserves it. We loved him in the BBC’s Sherlock and now he’s going to be in not one, but TWO genre films we were already dying to see; Star Trek 2 and The Hobbit. The latter has been filming for quite a while, and although Cumberbatch is playing two roles in the two-part Tolkien epic, he just recently began shooting. And well, he had trouble containing himself when his Sherlock co-star, Martin Freeman, came on set as hairy-footed Bilbo Baggins.

George Lucas’ latest film Red Tails hit theaters this past weekend. The action drama, about a group of African American U.S. service members from World War II known as the Tuskegee Airmen, landed at a very respectable number two at the box office. We know this project had been Lucas’ baby for some time but thanks to a recently uncovered scan of a 1990 issue of Lucasfilm Fan Club magazine, we now know this film arrived exactly twenty years later than planned.

Have you ever gotten into a particularly bad coughing fit? Have you ever hacked something up in the process? Have you ever hacked up some CANCER? You may have been able to say yes to the first two but this mom from the United Kingdom may be one of a few people who can say yes to the third.
