New Zealand’s Mount Ruapehu, one of the two volcanoes used by Peter Jackson as Mount Doom stand-ins for The Lord of the Rings, is getting ready to blow. It’s almost like the whole country is turning into one giant The Hobbit promotional tie-in.

Okay, so this trailer is practically identical to the original, but there are some minor differences. This is the trailer that premiered before Brave, but if your showing was anything like mine, we were all too busy freaking out to actually notice the particularities of the footage. Now that it’s finally on the internet, see if you can spot the differences after the jump!

Don’t nerd rage at me, this is awesome. Youtube user SouperboyX started work on a Justice League fan trailer before Warner Bros. announced that they were relaunching their Justice League movie project (and starting production on tons of other character films). He writes, “Here we basically have a ‘Suicide Squad/VRA/Brainiac Invasion’ type thing going on here. Probably what would be the three main acts of a film.” He includes footage from several recent DC films and television shows including the Wonder Woman pilot, Green Lantern, The Dark Knight Rises, and Smallville. And is that some G.I. Joe: Retaliation I see thrown in for added effect? Possibly some Transformers too? I’d see it. What about you?

Hey, did you hear that there was footage from Joss Whedon‘s Much Ado About Nothing floating around the internet? Did you get all excited about it? Yeah, you can stop. There are maybe a few seconds of it in what is really just another video about The Avengers. Whedon talked about his career this weekend on CBS This Morning, and a tiny portion of Much Ado was shown, and then about six or seven minutes of Avengers footage that you’ve already seen. We’ll meet you after the jump once you stop yawning. He talks about Buffy and her feminist origins, too.

It’s the car, right? Chicks dig the car. And more to the point, if she’s an environmentally friendly chick, she’ll really dig this car. It’s a battery powered Batmobile, or BATT-mobile if you prefer.

The latest developments in providing more accurate and less expensive services in women’s health, specifically Pap smears and mammograms, involves robots. But before you make the same assumption that we did — that robots are starting to perform Pap smears — keep in mind that this is actually robots reading the samples, not obtaining them. This is not like the midwife droid Chroon-Tan-B in Revenge of the Sith that (coldly, emotionlessly) delivered Luke and Leia while Natalie Portman died. So rest assured: we’re talking about robots analyzing samples. In a lab. At a safe distance from human genitals.

So this might be the weirdest news I’ve heard today: Back during WWII, one group of British spies were hoping that pumping Hitler with with enough estrogen would calm him down enough to stop the whole mass genocide/take over the world kick he was on. There were undoubtedly plenty of “kill Hitler” plots circling around at the time (not to mention The Doctor’s efforts), but the logic behind this one is what catches our eye. Follow the jump to learn more about it.

Battleship. Ever since its trailer was released a few weeks ago, movie fans have been buzzing with anticipation for what is sure to be the board-game-to-film masterpiece of the century. Or….something like that. Only quite possibly the opposite. In either case we’re mighty curious, so here are some new things we’ve learned about the…adaptation.
