Six video game couples that have stuck with me over the years, each representing a different sort of love.
What's with the name?

To know Studio Ghibli films is to love Studio Ghibli films, and it is with a heavy heart that most fans are bidding farewell to Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. His final film with the studio, The Wind Rises, is about Jiro Horikoshi, an airplane designer. The film will debut throughout the U.S. in February, and if this clip is any indication, it will be yet another gorgeous Miyazaki film.READ MORE

Pippi Longstocking, that freckle-faced redhead girl you oughta know, is very close to my heart. I dressed up as her one year for Halloween. Pipe cleaners in my pigtails. That costume was rad (aren’t I adorable?). Anyway, all this is to say that my hair ears perked up when I read about how Hayao Miyazaki wanted to make a Pippi movie back in 1971. Only he didn’t get to, because creator Astrid Lindgren was all “Thanks, but no thanks.”
The Miyazaki and Studio GHBLI Livejournal has a whole slew of concept art for the might-have-been film. Look and be sad.READ MORE

Two weeks ago the Sandman prequel cover by artist J.H. Williams III was revealed, showing Morpheus fully dressed with the mask and dreamstone he was wearing during the events that kicked off the Sandman series. Now a cover by Dave McKean, the artist who created the recognizable covers for the series 25 years ago, has been released, complete with Dream sitting on his throne, and Anubis and other figures teasing us from behind the chair with hints of what we might be looking forward to. Of the dark alternate cover, Neil Gaiman told Entertainment Weekly,
“There is something special about Dave McKean that makes it feel real….I get the same thrill I got 25 years ago seeing his covers…”
Head past the jump to see the first page of the prequel, illustrated by Williams, as well as the San Diego Comic Con souvenir book cover featuring Morpheus, illustrated by McKean.READ MORE

I’m not exactly sure why I’m so worried about this animated adaptation of The Little Prince. It’s not like Antoine de Saint-Exupery‘s classic children’s novella is untouched by the hands of film and TV. And there’s nothing wrong with adaptation on a basic level. There’s just something about the notion of a star-filled version of the notoriously sad book that puts me on high alert. Don’t happi-fy this one, Hollywood.
That said, the actors involved give me no small bit of hope.READ MORE

Have you ever seen a kid at a Disney park who is clearly just so into that character interact with the cast member playing that character? And it doesn’t matter to that kid that the cast member doesn’t have exactly the same voice, or isn’t actually a cartoon character in real life: they know they’re meeting their hero, and it’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to them.
Well, that’s basically what happened here, except the “character” was Queen Elizabeth II, and the “cast member” was Helen Mirren.READ MORE

On the Iron Man 3 red carpet Bleeding Cool caught up with Lady Sif herself, Jaimie Alexander, to talk about Thor: The Dark World, the trailer for which had just been released earlier that day. The extent of the 100% spoiler-free comments she made is that the Thor sequel “definitely [has] a darker feel” than its predecessor. Fitting, given the title.
It’s her more spoilery comments about the potential for a love triangle between Sif, Thor, and Jane that caught my attention, though. Vague unmarked spoilers are behind the cut. Come have feels with me.READ MORE

“I just feel like that gig is so hard. Especially for, like, a woman—the amount of months that would be spent trying on dresses alone … no way.” — Tina Fey, asked whether her Golden Globes hosting gig and an endorsement by William Shatner might lead to her and Amy Poehler hosting the Oscars next year.
Told that the interviewer “was hoping for at least ‘a one in a million chance,’” Fey responded “I wish I could tell you there was.”
Welp. There you go. It was a nice dream while it lasted.
