Sam Claflin Was Nervous About Living Up To Finnick’s Sex Appeal In Catching Fire

We’re not sure how intense the search was to find an actor for the role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire but for fans, it was nerve-wracking. Everyone had a different idea of what this god-like creature must look like in order to match what they imagined while reading the book. Eventually, it was Snow White and the Huntsman star Sam Claflin who secured the coveted role and he admits he wasn’t sure he was up to the task in the looks department.

Did The CW Just Invent The Hunger Games With Their New Reality Show?

We’re all agreed The Hunger Games are very bad, right? Not the film, of course, the film was awesome but the actual games. Pitting children against one another until just one remains is evil, evil, evil. So why is The CW creating a reality series that’s eerily similar?

S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier Couldn’t Actually Exist. Nick Fury, You’ve Lied to Me for the Last Time. [VIDEO]

TechFeed’s Fact or Fictional sets its sights on the Helicarrier from The Avengers, asking astronomer Phil Plait whether it’s something that could actually exist. The verdict? A resounding “Ehhhhh… technically. But not really, no.” Turns out that amount of power it would take to keep it aloft makes the whole thing pretty impractical, plus the turbines blowing air down at the Earth’s surface at “faster than the speed of sound” would be an “environmental disaster.” Darnit, Nick Fury! First you trick the Avengers into believing Coulson’s dead, then you get my hopes up about a Helicarrier that will never actually exist. You’re on notice.

If We Are Living in the Matrix, Gosh Darnit, These Scientists Are Going to Find Out About It

A group of physicists thinks they’ve figured out a way to uncover whether we’re living in the Matrix.

No, really.

A few years back Oxford professor Nick Bostrom put forth the idea that our world may be an advanced computer simulation, and now researchers at the University of Bonn in Germany have undertaken an experiment designed to let us know if that’s true.

Is Doctor Who a Religion? [VIDEO]

In the latest video from PBS’ Idea Channel, host Mike Rugnetta makes the case that Doctor Who is in fact a religion, based on its themes (the nature of good versus evil, explaining the mysteries and wonder of the cosmos), main character (the Doctor is “a supernatural force of capital-G good” who defends and betters humanity and has sacrificed himself for it multiple times), and heavily invested fanbase (who are personally impacted by the show and its “cosmology” and have built a community around it). The characteristics Rugnetta brings up about the Who fandom seem to apply to most fandoms, but it’s still a thought-provoking video.

Jennifer Lawrence Almost Passed On The Hunger Games & Why Another Actor Actually Did

The amount of “what ifs” in Hollywood is probably staggering but can you imagine if Jennifer Lawrence said no to The Hunger Games? But we don’t have to and we have Lawrence’s mom to thank for that. Now if only another actor had sought out advice from dear old mom before passing on Catching Fire…

The Hunger Games Gets an Honest Trailer

Sometimes when you see a movie that’s been adapted from a book or a comic, you can have trouble separating what the movie’s telling you from what you already know. Personally, it took me almost a week to realize that the reveal of Talia in The Dark Knight Rises might not have seemed as meaningful or foreshadowed to people who weren’t familiar to the comics. This video is basically doing the same thing to me for The Hunger Games.

What I’m saying is: if you want to say “but there is an explanation for that!” during this video, just wait for the end. Also, anyone going to any of Lionsgate’s DVD release parties tonight? We’ll be watching with you this weekend!
