I have a pet theory. Well, it’s really more of a faith-based conjecture ungrounded in any evidence that I refuse to abandon. And it is that Sam Neill was brought back to the franchise for Jurassic Park III in the same way that his character was convinced to go back to Jurassic Park. They told him it was for something else and then flew him out there and didn’t let him leave until he’d made the movie/rescued that kid.

Glad to see they won’t be putting the actor through that for Jurassic Park IV.

Location scouting and other aspects of pre-production for Jurassic Park 4 are already well underway, but a pair of tweets from members of crew has made it look like we might not be seeing the film any time soon.

Say it ain’t so, movie gods. Say it ain’t so.

Colin Trevorrow, the director who’s been brought on to the long, long gestating Jurassic Park IV to make a script Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver into another dinosaur movie that I will go see because dinosaurs, tweeted this picture recently, calling it “Nublar.” As a person who is wearing an Isla Nublar Research Team hoodie right now, I can tell you that Isla Nublar is the name of the island on which the main facility of Jurassic Park is located (as opposed to Isla Sorna, where the second and third movies took place).

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to integrate the idea of a fourth Jurassic Park movie into the “things that are happening” part of my brain. This may take some time.

Mike O’Brien is at it again, but this time he’s roped one of my long-time Hollywood crushes into his 7 Minutes in Heaven routine - Jeff Goldblum. Beware: some serious flirting goes down in this episode.

In Jurassic Park III (yes, Jurassic Park III, okay, I’ve seen it, and am not ashamed to say that I loved it, though certainly for no reasons that the makers of Jurassic Park III would have preferred*) one of the only smart things the characters do is to find a large abandoned boat, get it running, and sail it to the coast where they can hypothetically meet up with their military rescuers. See, the predators that are after them won’t be able to reach them in the middle of the river, and they can just coast on by all these calm, gentle herbivores in a nice montage of pseudo-John Williams music. The only threat to them on the water is, of course, Spinosaurus, the movie’s omnipotent murder machine with a satellite phone stuck in its guts.

So it’s a good thing, really, that science has come along to prove Jurassic Park III wrong, because there was absolutely nothing terrible about it before this revelation.

Today is a wonderful day: The day Jurassic Park comes back to theaters. In 3D, but who cares about that part? I don’t want to make you jealous, but we at The Mary Sue are taking a field trip to a screening after work. It’s going to be awesome. Dinosaurs, hacker girls, and attractive Jeff Goldblums everywhere. So what better day to start the weekend than with Lucas Hausrath‘s video remix of Jurassic Park, starring none other than Dr. Malcolm himself?

I agree with what the Honest Trailer for the 3D re-release of Jurassic Park says about it being unnecessary. It is. And yet I do not care. If there’s a chance to see Jurassic Park on the big screen I’m going to take it, no matter how many dimensions it’s in.

And all the stuff about how the technology in the movie is hilariously outdated now is actually a positive. You have not known joy until you’ve been in a sold-out screening of people laughing at “It’s an interactive CD-ROM!,” not to mention cat-calling at Jeff Goldblum‘s shirtless, glistening torso and cheering when Lex goes into girl-hacker mode.

The Stan Winston School of Character Arts has made us very happy by releasing behind-the-scenes videos of how the Jurassic Park dinosaurs were made. We saw a Raptor test, how a man fit inside a Raptor, and most recently, the Dilophosaurus. “It was the largest puppet we built that had absolutely no hydraulics in it. So it was weighty and a big challenge to get to move,” said lead Brachiosaurus artist Andy Schoneberg, “I got quite a workout on the jaw, making a big circular motion with this giant controller, getting everything moving and grinding properly.” Seriously, being next to one of their creations is the next best thing to being next to an actual dinosaur.
