Yesterday, legendary designer and filmmaker Saul Bass would have been 93. Everyone celebrated in their own way – Google made a doodle in honor of him and artist Fernando Reza created a unique tribute. He created Game of Thrones posters in the Bass’ unique style. He writes, “Each poster commemorates one of Saul Bass’ frequent collaborators Otto Preminger, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchock, and John Frankenheimer. Each with visual cues to some of Bass’s most iconic works. This also opened the door to envisioning what a Hitchcock/Kubrick/Preminger/ Frankenheimer adaptation may have been, so each print comes complete with prospective cast and crew info at the bottom.”

Artist Cami Sanders (KaiKoa on DeviantArt) decided to take a few House Sigils from Game of Thrones and replace the current creatures (direwolf, dragons, etc.) with Pokémon. It’s subtle, mind you, and these could easily pass as just an alternate design of the sigils but look closer and you’ll see you must catch them all…

This is the second Jaime and Brienne rom-com trailer we’ve come across; this one has more of an 80s flavor than the first, plus it has more footage of the duo’s wacky road trip hijinks to work with. I suggest making a double feature of them, then add on the Tyrion/Bronn buddy comedy for good measure. Who’s going to edit together something Superbad-esque starring Podrick Payne? We need more Game of Thrones genre mashups, people.

As it so happens I hold puns, pizza, and Game of Thrones very close to my heart, so my love for the Westerosi-themed specials boards at Vinnie’s Pizzeria in Brooklyn should come as no surprise. You can check out other wonderful fusions of pop culture and pizza at their Tumblr. I’m rather fond of the Aaahh!!! Real Monsters board myself.

Starring Evelina Barry as Daenerys (vocals by Elizabeth Oldak) and Peter Hollens as Ser Jorah Mormont, this is but one of many songs that could fit in a Walt Disney rendition of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Artist Nigel Evan Dennis was trying something new when he started illustrating minimalist versions of characters from HBO’s Game of Thrones. Turns out trying something new worked in his favor. In “Where Have All The Wildlings Gone?” not only is Dennis taking a stab at drawing just about every character from the show, he’s also including House allegiances, faiths, alliances, and a pretty detailed timeline. Oh yeah, and a countdown clock for each new episode. Check out some of the characters already represented and keep an eye on Dennis’ site for regular updates.

Praise R’hllor, Game of Thrones is back! Last night’s season three premiere sent my mind into something of a tizzy. On the one hand, (some of) my favorite characters are back, and the show’s setting up some really awesome things for them!
On the other hand… did anyone else think the premiere was a bit slow?

We have eight hours and counting until Game of Thrones starts back up again. But when season three does get underway, it’ll be light on the Tyrion. It makes sense, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
