Sally Ride Honored With the Presidential Medal of Freedom

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor the United States can award, created to recognize “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” In a ceremony yesterday, President Obama announced that he will be posthumously awarding the Medal to Sally Ride, the third woman, and first American woman, in space.

Monsters University Trailer Contains Like Two Seconds of Nathan Fillion

With Monsters University imminent, Pixar has been rolling out some of the voice acting cameos they’ve peppered throughout the movie’s cast, including Steve Buscemi, John Krasinski, Alfred Molina, Frank Oz, and Captain Tightpants himself, Nathan Fillion. I’m pretty sure he’s the lettermans jacketed monster who tells Mike he should hang out with someone “a little more your speed,” but I could be wrong. Maybe he’s actually the giant football monster.

If The Characters Of Firefly Lived In Game of Thrones’ Westeros, These Would Be Their Sigils

HBO has been doing a ton of marketing for Game of Thrones Season 3. Most recently, JoinTheRealm.com, where you can create your very own House Sigil. (I did it yesterday.) But reddit user CerebralBypass thought to make them for the fictional characters of Firefly instead. And considering the limited options offered, they did a pretty great job.

Buffy vs. Edward Fan Mashup Wins Copyright Struggle With Lionsgate, Gets Back Online

In 2009 Jonathan McIntosh made a six minute long video by splicing together clips from Twilight and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and just a tiny, tiny bit of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), where Edward Cullen finds his vampire instincts turning his affections towards Buffy Summers, and he bites off quite a bit more than his fangs can properly chew. At the time, Summit Entertainment had better things to do than shut down cleverly made internet videos with millions of views and a Webby nomination, but everything changed when the Fire Nation -

No, I mean. Everything changed when Summit Entertainment, and therefore The Twilight Saga was acquired by Lionsgate a year ago.

Monday Cute: Truffles the Guinea Pig Shatters His Own Previous World Record at the Long Jump

You probably think that’s a funny title I made up to go with this guinea pig video, but it’s not. Truffles, under the training of his fourteen-year-old owner Chloe, really did set the world record for Guinea Pig jumping (in distance, not height) in March. Since then many other Guinea pigs have entered the competition, jumping farther than his initial twelve inches. Truffles has stepped up to defend his title however, this time making it 18.9 inches.
