Extend Your Doctor Who Finale Feels With the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra [VIDEO]

The morning after the Doctor Who season finale seems an excellent time to post the latest video from the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra, which sees 292 musicians and vocalists from across time and space performing “Amy’s Suite,” arranged by Stephen Willis using five of Who composer Murray Gold‘s Doctor Who themes.

As always, our recap will go up tomorrow, but because I’m curious: Give me your three-word review of the ep in the comments.

Every Star Trek Crew Runs In This Beautiful Print

Paige Carpenter‘s rendering of the crews of Star Trek, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise and Star Trek (2009) are easily recognizable despite their reduction to silhouette, using almost nothing but those iconic dashes of red, yellow, and blue. I chose to feature the Voyager one here because that’s the series I’m watching right now, so there. You can see the whole print, perfectly titled “Away Mission,” and buy it as a shirt, hoodie, or tote at her Society 6 page.

Listen To “Robert Downey Jr.” Sing About His Snazzy Iron Man Suit

I almost left Robert Downey Jr.’s name out of the title because it’s possible he would do something like this for real. But this is a parody. A very well-executed parody. You may remember Wesley Freitas’ work from his Big Trouble in Little China/”Gangnam Style” or Dark Knight Rises/”Call Me Maybe” parodies. This time he’s pretending to be Iron Man and singing in the style of Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie.” Enjoy!

And Now: Genderswapped Steampunk Iron Man

Michele of The Suitcase Studio wore this outfit, designed by her husband and stitched by her mother-in-law, to WonderCon in Anaheim last week. I guess the family that cosplays together, stays together.

Tumblr Has Successfully Willed Their Fan-Created Swimming Anime Into Existence As a Real Show

Are you familiar with the glorious Tumblr phenomenon known as Swimming Anime? If not, Susana covered it in-depth when it burst onto the scene in a cloud of chlorine and homoerotic tension last month. But for tl;dr purposes, the basics are these: A company called Kyoto Animation (or KyoAni) created a 30-second promo for an anime about four male members of a swim team. It wasn’t a real anime; they were just showing off their animation skills. But Tumblr latched onto it, creating characters, ships, fanart, fic, and in-depth meta within 48 hours, all for a show that was never going to exist.

Until now. Congratulations, Tumblr. Swimming Anime is being made.

Star Wars Uncut: The Empire Strikes Back Teaser Has Dogs, Puppets, Fans Being Awesome [VIDEO]

Star Wars Uncut, “the biggest fan recreation in the universe,” is a project where fans remake Star Wars 15 seconds at a time any way they want. They’ve already done A New Hope, and now a new teaser for The Empire Strikes Back is here. If you’re a Star Wars fan, I guarantee you’ll want to watch it (and maybe even participate—there are still a few scenes available).

Check out the trailer behind the jump. If you like what you see and happen to be in the New York area this weekend, the Tribeca Film Festival is hosting a Star Wars Uncut installation, free and open to the public, where you can “become part of Star Wars fan culture as you use a joystick to select the scenes and make the movie of your choosing.” Find out the when and where here.

Amazing Fan-Created World War Z Posters Bring the Zombie Apocalypse to (Un)Life

I’ve been less-than-pleased by the two trailers we’ve seen so far for World War Z. I understand the need to create a main character where there was none in the books (or, rather, where there were several main characters). But does there really have to be a tired old “X is the only hope to save humanity! And he gets separated from his family and has to find them!” plotline? I don’t give a hoot about Brad Pitt‘s character. I want to see the zombie apocalypse!

Ahem. Apologies. What I meant to get at with that mini-rant is that, even if the movie’s awful (which it might not be), fans can always be relied upon to create awesome things related to books they love. Several of those awesome things can be seen behind the cut courtesy of the BLURPPY Artists Project, which invited eight artists to create World War Z posters.

Seven Years of Fandom Easter Eggs That Look Good Enough to Eat

Lesley A. Jensen makes a new set of Easter Eggs every year, based on the characters of a different geeky show, movie, or video game. This set for Batman: The Animated Series is my favorite, but I’m heavily biased, so you should probably come on in here here and see the others to form your own opinion.
