Whoopi Goldberg Might Be Playing April O’Neil’s Boss

Yesterday our world spun with the news that something half-way interesting was actually happening on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Ninja Turtles or whatever it winds up calling itself. Which is to say that Whoopi Goldberg, previously not considered to be connected to the movie in any way, shape, or form, was on set. With no casting announcement to go on, speculation immediately began as to who the actress might be playing.

Comic Book Movie thinks it has the answer.

Planes Trailer Delivers Startling New Developments in Study of Origins of Cars Universe

The Cars 3: The Search for More Money Planes trailer was just delivered from Disney on high, and this seems as good a time as any to indulge in my least productive pastime: trying to reverse engineer the origins of the Cars universe based on the evidence presented. I remember the first time I explained to a bunch of shocked peers that there were no human beings in Cars, and then spent twenty minutes trying to figure out why a setting with sentient vehicles seemed weirder with no humans than with humans, as in, say, Thomas the Tank Engine.

The Planes trailer reveals new evidence that may rock the world of amateur Cars archeology, while simultaneously supporting the “Darkest Wall-e Timeline” theory which states that the Cars universe is what happened when the robots of Wall-E attempted to recreate the civilization of their masters in tribute to them, after they couldn’t survive the process of re-settling Earth. The Planes trailer reveals that the universe of Cars knows about Old Yeller.

Now I’m just waiting for somebody to connect this to the Tommy Westphall Universe.

If you’ve been seeing a lot of news stories lately where Robert Downey, Jr. casually says something to the effect of “I’m not going to be playing Iron Man forever” or “yeah, I’d be interested in seeing who else could be Tony Stark,” it might be informative for you to remember that his contract actually is up to be renegotiated in this post Iron Man 3 era. These seemingly casual remarks are actually the first salvos in the epic game of moneyball that’s about to be played between Downey and Marvel Entertainment over what he’ll be paid to appear in The Avengers 2 and possibly The Avengers 3.

This means that some news outlets are pulling out all their unnamed sources to talk some straight insider talk about the contract negotiations between Downey, all of his Avengers co-stars, and Marvel. So you should take this with a grain of salt, but one of those news outlets is claiming that Marvel is mulling over script ideas for some pretty exciting secondary characters.

I Feel Like I’m the Only Person on the Internet Who Doesn’t Think These Amazing Spider-Man Photos Mean that [SPOILER]

The biggest news on the Amazing Spider-Man 2 front lately has been some Getty Images pictures (snapped by Bobby Bank) of Emma Stone standing by a railing. Lots of folks are taking it as evidence that TASM2 will be dropping the proverbial other shoe when it comes to her character, and… oh, fine, I’ll put a thirty year old plot point under a spoiler cut. Lots of folks are taking it as evidence that TASM2 will be killing Gwen Stacy.

I’m not convinced, but if you don’t want to find out what’s under that spoiler tag, don’t read the rest of the post.

Ophelia Lovibond Joins Guardians of the Galaxy

With the news that Marvel and Zoe Saldana have worked out an arrangement that leads to her playing Gamora (good job Marvel, because you need her), we’ve got the news of another cast member being added to the movie. And… possibly her spoilery role.

Well, not really, but it’s perhaps more spoilery than Marvel wants to reveal at the moment. I’ll explain.

It Looks Like Hayley Atwell Would Be Okay With Being Lara Croft, and We’re Also in Favor

Sometimes we talk about poorly sourced rumors here because they look very, very likely to be true. Sometimes we talk about things that may not be something that Hollywood is officially doing, or will ever officially do, because we very, very much want it to be something that happens.

You know, like Hayley Atwell returning to the nerd world as the lead in the Tomb Raider movie reboot currently in development.

Come On In and See Which Awesome Historical Figure Might Be in the 50th Anniversary Episode of Doctor Who

I wonder why they dismantle and rebuild the TARDIS on set when they could just materialize it? Seems like that would save on shipping and labor. Anyway, shooting has begun on the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who, and you all should know what that means: British paparazzi snaps of the set! Anybody who isn’t into looking at spoilers that I suppose could be major plot points but are probably pretty mild and will eventually be revealed in press should look no further.

Wachowskis Team With Babylon 5 Creator for New TV Series

Ah, a Netflix produced original content project that I can actually get interested in! (Sorry, Arrested Development, I’ve got nothing against the show but I’m also not in the fandom, so the Excite-O-Meter is not running high.) Andy and Lana Wachowski are teaming with J. Michael Straczynski to bring a ten-episode sci-fi series called Sense8 to Netflix in late 2014.

Amanda Abbington Joins the Cast of Sherlock (Maybe?)

Series 3 of the BBC’s runaway hit Sherlock has begun filming, much to the delight of its rabid fanbase. But there’s apparently one last minute addition to the cast who had yet to be announced, at least according to some folks who were in Portland Square in Bristol, England and shot some video there. If they’re to be believed, Amanda Abbington, longtime partner of Sherlock star Martin Freeman, has joined the series.
