Monday Cute: Jurassic Park‘s Infamous Kitchen Scene as It Was Always Meant to Be

According to movie legend, when stop motion animator Phil Tippett saw how well cats could replicate the movements of dinosaurs for film, he exclaimed “I’ve just become extinct.” Steven Spielberg loved the response so much, he borrowed the line for the film itself. And then they wound up replacing the cats in post with CGI, because CGI doesn’t demand three six-hour naps and all the dry food it can crunch a day.

New Dinosaur Species Announced With What Some Scientists Are Calling a “Jumbo-Sized Schnoz”

A new type of nose has been discovered in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah, with a dinosaur attached to it. Nasutoceratops titusi was announced today as a new dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. If Nasutoceratops titusi looks familiar, it could be because the species belongs to the same family as Triceratops, and shares the dual horns above the eyes, nose horn, and bony frill with the more famous genus. However, Nasutoceratops is gaining attention not only for its freshman status but for its nose, which is quite a bit bigger than that of other, related dinosaurs.

Clever Girl: Velociraptors Are Taking Over The British Vogue Website

Type the Konami Code in on the homepage of the British Vogue website, trust me.  You will not be disappointed.  When you do, you can see an array of very fashionable velociraptors in a variety of hats, that an unknown genius has arranged to slide across the webpage in response to the videogame cheat code.  I like to think of them as the residents of Jurassic Park Avenue, strolling around in wonderfully coordinated ensembles, photo-bombing unsuspecting models, and gnawing on intestines.  Head past the jump for more screenshots from the British Vogue website.

Some Rare Tyrannosaurus rex Feces Will Be Headed to the Smithsonian Soon

A long time ago, perhaps 65 million years or so, a Tyrannosaurus rex in what is now Saskatchewan, Canada ate another dinosaur, allowing me to show you this photograph of 100% genuine dinosaur poop.  This hunk of fossilized feces, or coprolite, which actually quite importantly supports the idea that the Tyrannosaurus rex was carnivorous, is being replicated so that its copy can be sent from The Royal Saskatchewan Museum to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.  The fossil actually contains the bones of another dinosaur, perhaps a “duck-billed dinosaur or a horned creature such as Triceratops” according to Live Science and will be featured in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum’s upcoming ”Putting Dinosaurs in Their Place” exhibit.
