New Green Band Evil Dead Trailer Gives Us All of the Creepiness, Less of the Gore [VIDEO]

I can’t be the only one who chose not to wath the red band Evil Dead trailer. If I recall correctly, I was going to watch it, but then I heard how, er, intense it is, and I was eating an early lunch, and… look, it just didn’t seem like a good call at the time, is what I’m saying.

So here’s a green band trailer—a.k.a. one that’s much more likely to play in an actual movie theater and is therefore lighter on the particularly gruesome stuff—for A) my fellow wimps, or B) your general person who’s looking forward to the Evil Dead remake. It may not have a lot of blood, guts, and body mutilation, but it’s still creepy as hell.

Watch Winnie Cooper Kick Some Tasmanian Devil Ass In The New Syfy Original Movie

Syfy original movies have a reputation. I’m not going to say what kind but let’s just say you know what you’re going to get going in. The upcoming Tasmanian Devils looks to be no different. It stars Danica McKellar, Olympic gold medalist Apolo Ohno, and Battlestar Galactica’s Rekha Sharma, and premieres January 19. The trailer is quite gruesome so be careful if you’re watching while on lunch.

Our First Poster for the Remade Evil Dead

It’s one thing to remake a classic horror film, but when you do it by giving the formerly male lead role to a female character, you arouse our interest. Here’s the first poster for Evil Dead, the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead.

1946 Walt Disney Menstruation Animation Tells Us We’re Ok Just The Way We Are

No, this video from 1946 isn’t perfect as far as feminism goes but I have to say, I’m surprised to find it so…not 1946? Though I guess I’m even more surprised Walt Disney Productions made a video about our periods at all.

Rick Baker to Receive a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Finally.

Even if you don’t recognize the name of makeup artist Rick Baker, you definitely know his work. His list of credits includes An American Werewolf in London, the ’80s Beauty and the Beast TV show, Ed Wood, Harry and the Hendersons, Men in Black… he’s basically the God of movie makeup.

And he’s finally getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s about damn time.

That’s One Babysitter You Don’t Want to Mess With [VIDEO]

THE SLEEPOVER from Chris Cullari on Vimeo.

Director Chris Cullari‘s The Sleepover is the winner of Lionsgate and Vimeo’s The Cabin in the Woods spoof horror film competition. It takes a look at all those sleepy suburban communities beset by evil serial killers in horror movies; if you’re a fan of horror comedies that lovingly (but scarily) poke fun of the horror genre (so… if you liked The Cabin in the Woods), you’ll probably like it. It’s good.

But Rebecca, you may be thinking. Not that I’m questioning your frankly unimpeachable taste in short films, but what makes The Sleepover a good fit for The Mary Sue? What does it have for lady geeks in particular?

To which I say: Watch to the end. That is one badass babysitter.

Sam Mendes Working on a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen-esque Show About Vampire Hunters

One more thing for Alan Moore to be angry about: Skyfall‘s director and co-writer, Sam Mendes and John Logan, are working on a TV series described by Deadline as “an origin story set in the 1800s London in the vein of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.”

(OK, Alan Moore probably won’t care either way, seeing as it’s not actually a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen TV show. But you never know with him.)

Cartoon Characters Can Celebrate Halloween, Too!

It’s not just Halloween in the real world. Artist Dennis Culver was commissioned by Movie Fone to draw cartoon characters dressed up for Halloween, and some of the resulting images are a bit… disturbing. Like Snoopy as the Driver, ready to bash some skulls in, or Mickey Mouse as Freddie Krueger. But others are just plain fun. (Daria Morgendorfer as Beetlejuice. Yes!) And anyway, it wouldn’t be Halloween without some creep factor.

Evil Dead Red Band Trailer Is Seriously Evil, Seriously Dead, Seriously Red

If you aren’t hip to the whole “red band” thing, allow us to explain. Usually trailers have a “green band,” that bit that comes before the trailer. It means the The Motion Picture Association of America has put their stamp on it to play before films with equal ratings. But trailers that go so far past the point of acceptable language, violence, or sex get a red band. They can be played in theaters with R, NC-17, or unrated films but it doesn’t happen often. Before you hit play, let me just say, the Evil Dead remake trailer should have been given a “plaid band.” Watch at your own risk.

(If you don’t get the plaid reference, I’ve embedded a video to explain after the jump.)
