A Choose Your Own Adventure Movie Is In The Works

It appears that 20th Century Fox is looking to make a Choose Your Own Adventure movie, and has already acquired the right to use the name, and lined up one of the creators of the 1980′s book line as an executive producer.  The Hollywood Reporter describes the endeavor as a “crossplatform four-quadrant action-adventure franchise,” indicating that 20th Century Fox may be attempting to create an extremely interactive experience, with multiple types of media involved.

Disney’s Snow White Helps A Little Girl’s Wish To See Her Military Dad Come True [VIDEO]

Break out the tissues. Four-year-old Alyssa Brown made a very important wish at Snow White’s wishing well at Disneyland recently. She asked to have her father, a Marine serving in Afghanistan, back home with their family. It was a lovely idea but you know what they say, be careful what you wish for…

INCONCEIVABLE! There’s Going To Be A Princess Bride Board Game

This is just concept art right now, the final design is TBD but Game Salute is currently developing a Princess Bride board game. They write, “In order to do justice to the entire story, The Princess Bride: The Board Game is comprised of individual scenes, with each scene presenting a mini-game that advances players through the central story.  This allows players looking for a quick, fun visit to a beloved classic to play a game that lasts under an hour, while players who want to experience the entire Princess Bride story in one sitting can enjoy an epic day of fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles.”

They also say they have the rights to create other types of games which could tie into the board game and are accepting ideas for scenes you’d like to have playable. The battle of wits has begun!

Paleontologists working in Antarctica have discovered the remains of a giant prehistoric penguin. How giant is giant, you ask?

ESPN Sportscasters Pack as Many The Princess Bride References Into Their Half-Hour Show as Possible. And it’s Glorious.

We don’t post all that much football-related stuff on The Mary Sue—that’s more sister site’s SportsGrid’s beat—but when a trio of sportscasters pack a good 18 The Princess Bride references into a half-hour show… well… how can we resist? Buzzfeed put together this compilation of all the references from Sunday’s NFL Kickoff on ESPN, and I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty impressive. They kept it to two “Inconceivable”s and even worked in the ROUSes. That’s dedication.

Instead of a Twilight Reboot, How About A Twilight TV Show?

We just assumed a Twilight reboot was inevitable. Most likely starting production the minute The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 hit theaters. But did any of us think they’d create a television spin-off to continue the franchise? Well, that might be exactly what happens.

William Goldman Talks The Princess Bride Sequel at 25th Anniversary Reunion

Consider my heart officially warmed. The cast of The Princess Bride got together last night at a special New York Film Festival screening to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their classic film.

Absent from the screening was, of course, André the Giant, a.k.a. Fezzik, who passed away in 1993. In a post-screening Q&A, Mandy Patinkin (Inigo Montoya) shared with the 1,000-strong audience how André comforted a deathly-afrid-of-heights Wallace Shawn (Vizzini) during the Cliffs of Insanity scene by cradling the actor—who was a good two feet shorter than him—in a makeshift papoose, patting him on the head and saying “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.” I’m sorry, I just have something in my eye…

Happy 25th Anniversary, The Princess Bride

It was a time when life… didn’t seem so complicated. You know, 1987, when action comedies got romcom voiceover guys to do their trailers, and everything was drenched in customer service hold music.

But seriously: The Princess Bride, you complete us, at least you have ever since I got over how utterly terrifying I thought the torture scene was when I was a kid. Happy Birthday. You’ll be happy to know that even though I’d watched you, the book still fooled me until I was about half-way through it.

Amazon Wants to Make a Movie Called Zombies Vs. Gladiators Written and Directed by Clive Barker, and We’re Cool With That

Amazon — the online retailer, not a different Amazon — has been attempting to dip its toes into the waters of cinema in an attempt to become a competitor of Netflix, which also recently started producing original content. And as part of its first trick to convince you that Amazon Studios is your next wacky destination for movie films, it’s developing a movie called Zombies Vs. Gladiators. I can tell you might have your doubts. But how about this: Clive Barker — the man who made Hellraiser and Candyman, not a different Clive Barker — is going to write and direct this movie.
