Like Daria would be caught dead in heels. Or pink. (And I say this as someone who loves pink.)
I’ve seen better art in Christopher Hart’s “How To Draw Manga” books.
It kinda left a bad taste in my mouth to see Daria and Jane in couture garb considering they’d totally just look at the clothes and make snarky comments instead of wearing them.
Couture is custom-made, so I imagine at that point they’d accept the clothes they requested/ordered. Yes, of course the two of them would bristle at commercial, mass-produced fashion, but if compelled to choose a designer/house who isn’t DIY, Jane, at least, would probably pick Westwood, Gaultier, McQueen, Sui — designers with counterculture roots. I’m surprised you wouldn’t at least entertain these pics done just for fun, considering how both were put in various out-of-character costumes during the credits of the show.
And if you think somebody here isn’t paired with the right designer,
feel free to talk about it in the comments but don’t expect me to. I
don’t know aaaaaaanything about fashion.
It was supposed to be Quinn’s big modelling break, but it looks like “someone” “accidentally” “forgot” to give her the message.
I cannot imagine Rei ever wearing Dries Van Noten.
I can see this being an episode.
Daria is approached about modeling this fashion during a school event because of her “unique qualities.” She refuses using vocabulary the person approaching her doesn’t understand and thinks “that’s that”
That night, while eating dinner, Helen is not putting up with Jake’s frantic ranting about Munster cheese and tries to talk to the girls about their days. Quinn is all-too eager to divulge details about the sociopolitical workings of the fashion club, which Helen feigns interest, and Daria remains laconic.
Interrupting dinner is a phone call from Principal Li asking Daria again to participate in the show. Helen answers, is surprised that Daria turned it down, then quickly remembers that Daria is Daria, then agrees to do the show for her daughter. As soon as she hangs up the phone she talks to Daria about college applications and blah blah blah. Quinn is furious that she was not invited.
The next day, Daria tells Jane about the dinner. Jane thinks it’s a great idea. If nothing else it will give them some time to ridicule the people running the show. If things go sour, Jane offers to bring some spoiled red tempera paint to dump on some furs.
Jane and Daria go to the event…and…
(I’m not doing ALL the leg work here.)
Because teenagerdom is a mess, but some people handle it better than others.
