The Mary Sue and Calgary Expo Present: The Ultimate Cosplay Contest!

2015

Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo has been a huge supporter of Cosplay is not Consent and is heavily involved in their local fan community – but they wanted to take their support of cosplayers and fandom a step further. That’s why we here at The Mary Sue are teaming up with Calgary Expo to announce The Ultimate Cosplay Contest!

All you have to do is send in your very best cosplay. If you’re the Grand Prize Winner, you get to be an awesome featured guest at the Expo! The full prize pack includes:

  • Round-trip coach flights for you and a friend to Calgary for the Expo, April 16-19
  • Four nights accommodations
  • Two full Weekend VIP passes to Calgary Expo for you and your friend
  • A position as judge at the Calgary Expo Costume Contest

To enter, send a photo (or a bunch of photos!) of your cosplay to [email protected], along with your name, age, location, the name of your character, and a bit of writing describing why you picked that particular cosplay, what your creation process was like, and what you love about cosplaying. Please only send in one costume (though you can send as many photos of that one outfit as you like). Be sure to e-mail us your entry before March 1st!

All entries will be judged by folks here at The Mary Sue, Calgary Expo host Emily Expo, and soon-to-be-announced stars from the world of cosplay. Our panel of judges will pick the top ten entries, and then you, gentle reader, will get to vote for who you think should be the Grand Prize Winner.

To enter, you must be an amateur cosplayer (so if you’re already attending cons as a cosplay featured guest, this isn’t the contest for you! You’re doin’ fine on your own!); over 18 years old (I know! Sorry!); and live in the US or Canada (with some small exceptions). Full contest rules and regulations can be found over here.

Calgary Expo guests (so far) include, Ming-Na Wen, Stephen Amell, Stan Lee, Norman Reedus, Anne Wheaton, Lana Parrilla, and more. Last year, I got this photo at Calgary Expo:

Karen and the Babes.
