We Know You’re Sick of Campaign Ads, But You Can Watch One More: Brad Bird for Star Wars [VIDEO]

The Presidential election may be over, but the campaigning over who should direct Star Wars: Episode VII has just begun. This video makes a rather convincing case for Brad Bird, and I’ve gotta say I agree with them. Bringing up the Holiday Special is dirty politics, though.

First campaign ad and we’re already getting into vicious and exaggerated insults. Can’t we have a genuine discussion about who the best director is without bringing the holiday special into it?

Brad Bird is pretty much my favorite director, so HE HAS MY VOTE.

Meh, I’ve never understood the hysterical level of adoration that The Incredibles and Ratatouille get. I can’t sit through The Incredibles without feeling bored. I thought they were among the least interesting of the Pixar movies (better than Cars, but c’mon).

Katherine Bigelow would be a better choice. She is skilled at everyday-yet-bigger-than-life characters, her action sequences are thrilling and groundbreaking (see the foot chase in Point Break), and she tends toward a gritty aesthetic that a sequel to the 70′s early 80′s Star Wars needs.

Personally, I’m pulling for JJ jumping ship. The man obviously wanted to make Star Wars in the first place; I say let him.

…yeah, I’m one of *those* Trek fans. I loved the Abrams reboot for what it was, but what it was wasn’t Star Trek.

I feel the same about the reboot, but I also feel that JJ’s stuff tends to feel pretty empty and cold. There’s not much heart behind it, which Star Wars definitely should have.
