Watch the Newest Trailer for 2015’s Best Animated Feature Oscar Winner, The BoxTrolls

And All Was Right With the World

At least it had damn well better be. Pixar doesn’t have a movie coming out this year to sweep the Oscar away from Laika like Brave did with ParaNorman. And look, I like Brave, but ParaNorman is, objectively speaking and without dispute, one of the best animated movies that has been or probably ever will be. There’ll be no competition from Disney, whose sole animated offering this year, to my knowledge, is the Planes sequel. So no. How to Train Your Dragon 2, barring extreme suckitude, will secure a nom. But the only movie that might beat The BoxTrolls, indie stop-motion fantasy movie with a trailer about gay parents o’ my heart, is The Lego Movie. Which I loved. It’s impossible to say I’ll love The BoxTrolls more, since I haven’t seen it yet.

But I’ll probably love The BoxTrolls more. Because it’s Laika. ParaNorman. Coraline. Stop-motion. And look at the trailer. Look at it.
