Anthony Mackie to Play Martin Luther King in HBO’s Adaptation of All the Way
Falcon and Heisenberg as MLK and LBJ.
HBO is adapting the Tony-winning Broadway play All the Way, which tells the story of how President Lyndon Johnson fought to enact the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The play earned Bryan Cranston a Tony Award for playing LBJ, and Cranston will be reprising the role in the HBO version. Now, we have word that Anthony Mackie has won the coveted role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the film.
This play and film cover much of the same ground as Ava DuVernay’s Selma with one difference—while Selma portrays LBJ as someone who stubbornly opposed the legislation, All the Way portrays a more complex relationship between the President and King.
It’ll be interesting to see a different take on this particular historical moment. Has anyone out there seen the play on Broadway? What do you all think about this casting or this adaptation?
