Nintendo conspiracy theorists (that’s a thing, right?), you’ve got some new material: Nintendo just let out a software release schedule, andĀ Zelda Wii U isn’t listed as a 2016 release after already missing its 2015 debut.
I’ve expressed my concern that the Wii U is practically a dead console andĀ Zelda might pull aĀ Twilight Princess and come to both the Wii U and the “NX,” and this new piece of information does nothing to allay those fears. Nintendo’s release scheduleĀ in an earnings report lists upcoming games with some slated for 2016, but “The Legend of Zelda” is listed as “TBD”āand it’s not even necessarily listed as a Wii U title.
While the untitled Zelda game falls under the Wii U column on the schedule, there’s no NX column to be had yet, and Nintendo would certainly want a Zelda game on the list even if it were under the wrong console for the time being.Ā Not including it at all would raise even more flags and probably spook investors.
Of course, that’s far from solid proof that the game is skipping the Wii U or coming out on multiple consoles, but it definitely leaves the door open, and it’s disconcerting that even with this disclaimer preceding the schedule:
Nintendo’s management didn’t feel comfortable evenĀ speculating that Zelda would be out in 2016. With the NX to be shown at E3 next year, this could be bad news for Wii U owners.
