Don’t forget they also own the “Happy Birthday” song! Which is why you never hear it sung in restaurants or on TV, because you have to pay Disney royalties to do so!

With all this hullabaloo about Star Wars I don’t think people are really realizing the full potential here.

Wikipedia says that they didn’t get Indiana Jones: “When
The Walt Disney Company announced that it will acquire Lucasfilm on
October 30, 2012, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Indiana Jones was not
factored into the equation during the deal, because Paramount Pictures
still has a contract in place for future films.”

I expect that only applies to rights to develop future films, not the intellectual property overall. And that contract is now held from Disney. Disney has to honor the contract, but they’d control renegotiations on it and if Paramount has to do something to hold it…

Howard the Duck was one of the all-time great cult comics (well, cult for a mainstream publisher) nothing to sneeze at — the character was absolutely not obscure to comics readers of the 70′s and 80′s. Disney sued Marvel over Howard’s supposed resemblance to Donald, decades ago.

Man, I LOVED Curse of Monkey Island.

I also predicted a quick leveraging of Willow, as a ready-made competitor for Lord of the Rings.
Remember, when that film came out, it was seen by many as The closest We’ll Ever get to LotR.
And it really was pretty good.

Monkey Island was the first video game I ever completed. It could work well as a movie actually.

As long as it doesn’t star the latest tween singers…I’ll count it as a victory.

Lucas has received a lot of criticism for the prequels (the vast majority of them he completely deserved) but you have to give him credit for his overall body of work. Creating Star Wars and Indiana Jones was really impressive but his influence of Hollywood as a businessman might be even bigger than as a creator.

Now a technical artistic possibility.

I think a lot of people, including myself, originally jumped to the conclusion that Disney “is now is now in creative control of the Star Wars franchise.” And = with an iconic name like Disney, it’s easy to immediately imagine Princess Leia joining Belle and Ariel and musical, animated movies set in space. But what we’re really looking at is that Disney will be bankrolling, and profiting from Star Wars. But Star Wars films will still be made by Lucasfilm. Think the Avengers, which didn’t have any visible Disneyness at all. Don’t expect any Micky Mouse cameos.

LucasFilm is the second company Lucas has lost to Disney. The first being Pixar (in a round-about way.)

I would love to see the trilogy book sequel to Willow made into a movie! Do it, Disney.

Wait a second – how do they own SW: Galaxies? It’s defunct. And the current SWMMORPG (WTFBBQ) is Star Wars:The Old Republic. Which presumably Disney now owns …

LABYRINTH!! I don’t know whether to be excited or scared. I love Disney, I’m just not a big fan of their TV. What if they try to ruin Labyrinth with their tv-ness? I don’t think I can handle that…>.<

I don’t know, I’m a little surprised that we haven’t seen Tony owning a Mickey Mouse alarm clock, or something silly, childish, and iconic yet.

They’ve already got Indie for one of their attractions…?

Not to nit-pick but I don’t think Bowie wore a codpiece in Labyrinth; that’s probably the single most disturbing thing about that film, given how tight his tights were.
