5 Things I Loved About 2011

Big, Amazing Movies

Big, Amazing Movies

It was a big summer for big, important movies. The Harry Potter series officially came to a heartbreaking, but hopeful end. Steve Rogers won us over and made us clamoring for more (and then The Avengers started shooting and we got it). We’ll even give Thor credit for just being Thor (despite having a pointless romance in it, as much as we enjoy Natalie Portman). And The Muppets made us remember why we love the Muppets, and why they remain relevant in every way (thanks to Jason Segel, who treated the script with loving kid gloves). X-Men: First Class helped us forget X-Men: The Last Stand just enough. And Rise of the Planet of the Apes even impressed us. (I’ll even cast votes for Scream 4 and Fright Night.) It sure felt like a good time at the movies this year, even if there were some duds. (See our next list for those.)

I watched all six seasons of Doctor Who in two weeks and I also had difficulty giving up the tenth Doctor. I felt like I couldn’t like Matt Smith because it would hurt David Tennent. Now I understand that I can like them both at the same time. Though I will always cherish the time I got to spend with David. :)  Gosh this show it just amazing.

“Finally, a movie about women that had nothing to do with finding a boyfriend (that was just a bonus) or competing with your fellow woman”

You mean except for the 70% of the film that was about those exact things? Gimme a break. Not a bad flick, but hardly the daring subversion of genre tropes alleged by its reputation. I also don’t get its frequent comparisons to The Hangover.
