101-Year-Old Florence Detlor Is Facebook’s Oldest User

Today in Awesome

My mom isn’t on Facebook, and for that I’m grateful, but boy do I think it’s cool that this other lady is a registered user. Florence Detlor is 101-years-old and recently got the VIP treatment at Facebook headquarters. She also met with CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg

“There are 955 million active users on Facebook — and not all of them are in their teens or 20s,” writes Mashable. “The fastest-growing demographic on the service, for at least the last two years, has been women over 55.”

According to her profile, Florence graduated from Occidental College in 1932. She lives in Menlo Park [California] — coincidentally enough, where Facebook is now headquartered — and is “looking for a good book to read.” She joined Facebook three years ago this month, in August 2009.

Sandberg wrote on her Facebook page of the occasion, “Honored to meet Florence Detlor, who, at 101 years old, is the oldest registered Facebook user. Thank you for visiting us, Florence!”

Detlor has just over 650 friends on Facebook. No word on whether or not she’s picky with who she accepts but you can give a friend request a shot if you’re interested in getting to know her better.
